PROJECTS
OTHER
DESIGN

Before Playfinity I co-founded the Oslo division of Inventas, the largest design and development agency in Norway. I also worked as head of development at the furniture manufacturer STAY/Hov Dokka. The following is some snapshots from projects i led to give insight to the span of design and development tasks I have performed. Core aspects have been concept development, design and design processes, presentation and sales and mechanical engineering.
INTRODUCTION

One of my clients from my time as consultant at Inventas was determined to continuing to use me for their next tool design. I established the consultancy firm, SIDU, and collaborated with Inventas to design a new hand held tool for corrugated conduit clamps. There was a strong focus on ergonomics; finding the right way to best handle the tool as well as designing the tool to convey the ergonomics in the grip. I led the design process, performed research on site with professional electricians, analyzed the mechanisms from function prototype, participated in concepts of optimizing mechanisms and structure. I developed designs, made 3D-volume prototypes for testing ergonomics, and modelled the final design for injection molding.      Â

The last years at Inventas I was hired by Jotron, international leading company for safety and communication systems for extreme environments. I was lead for design and design processes of new products, and developing a uniform design for their product portfolio for the maritime division. During the many projects here i was responsible for design processes, concept development, co-engineering products, user testing, prototyping and user interfaces. Â

Inventas had developed a new mechanism for having magasins of cord clamps, making cord assembly for electricians much easier. My task was to design this mechanism to a product design. I researched the use scenarios defining the ergonomic requirements for the product where adding support below the clamp exit was a major finding and improvement. Several design concepts were made with various qualities. I modeled the final design for injection mold production and provided all product graphics.Â

I was hired by ABB, International technology leader in electrification and automation, to design their new line of fuse switch disconnectors. The challenge here was creating a design concept for a range of product versions with numerous technical and mechanical functions and specifications. The design work was also to be performed in accordance with ABB brand guidelines, still pushing the limit to set a more fresh contemporary design. I also made the complete presentation video for the final product for sales and fairs, illustrating the improvements we had accomplished in the development project.

Ragasco is a global leading manufacturer of composite liquide gas cylinders. I was hired in as the designer to lead there design driven innovation project, exploring the innovation possibilities for their core product. We did a research of the complete life cycle for the product identifying the key touch points for user interactions. We analysed the production process and the safety features of the product as well as user interviews to map out all relevant improvement parameters for the product. Following design process mapped out concepts for various use case improvements, and designs. Final concepts were made based on evaluation on business impact and production methods.Â

CONCEPTS & PRODUCTION METHODS

Grove Knutsen is a supplier of professional work equipment for carpenters and electricians. In addition to trading products, they have their own brand of products. I was hired to develop a innovative concept for a new product for their brand. The concept was to be based on analysis of needs from their core customer base, and thus provide a new innovative product for GKs portfolio. Focus groups where identified and interviewed individually and as group. Analysis of their work situations were performed as well intervjues with sub suppliers. The work revealed that improving mobility and order in work environments was the key need. A series of sub concepts for solutions were developed, and based on feedback, I designed a system around a portable step ladder and trolley as a portable workstation. I further developed the solution to a fully functional prototype.

INNOVATION DESIGN STUDY

Medema is a company providing products and systems for healthcare. I was hired in to lead a design innovation study for enabling elderly people to remain living at their homes as long as possible, thus relieving governmental costs. Research identified reducing falling injuries as the most efficient action to take, which again directed the focus to portable toilets as the focus for the development. Competitor research and various interviews and workshops provided me with insight to analyse the problems and make specification for the development. One core challenge: People did not want toilets in their bedrooms and living rooms. Felt like being old, smelled, and looked terrible. We sketched sub solutions, and combined these based on the impact it would have, and acceptance it would gain the product. Final design concept consisted of a product system to ingulf the variety of needs as well as providing for spreading out development costs.Â

I was hired in to do a service design for a municipality with object. The main challenge for the municipality was informing the public about available healthcare services in an efficient and accessible way. We did a series of interviews and workshops and identified a set of the municipalities touch points with the public, prioritising their relevance for improvements. Based on this we developed a concept for a physical welfare meeting point with corresponding structure for their website

I was hired by Stimeline to create a vision for their mobile control centers. The task was to invision how a workstation as part of a semi-trailer would look like fulfilling the list of requirements supplied by Stimeline. They wanted a design that would stand out, emphasizing them as a leading brand in their industry.Â

As head of development for STAY/Hov Dokka manufacturer, my main goal was to develop new business segments outside of traditional office spaces based on own brand. Objective was to give a more robust business founding from their existing volatile office segment, and increased revenue. One of the projects was developing a modular system for integrating conference tech into a furniture collection, enhancing collaboration flows in meeting whilst reducing visual and audio noise from tech. Designing the furniture series and collaborating with partner handling conference room equipment were central parts of this work.
Skill sets: Business development, Product design, Furniture Production, Sales and presentations, 3D Visualisations, Interior design, StrategyÂ

It has been an important skill to visualize concepts and ideas to bring them life. Being able to animate them, or sell the ideas through videos, even strengthens the ability to efficiently communicate ideas. Here I will show some samples of various videos, animations and visualisations I have made to communicate different topics.
ANIMATIONS, VIDEOS & VISUALISATIONS

At Inventas I was hired by Trox as designer to design accessories for new ventilation system, as well as make video to explain the qualities of their system.Â

An important aspect, and challenging task, was to explain what the game is about, how you play it, and how you get points for your score. When the game starts, you throw your user into a sound guided experience, so having them prepared was important so they would not get lost and confused.Â
Our solution in this app was to make video animations. We derived a method to do this in a way that would allow us to be flexible and efficient in making the animations, avoid labeling games/app to a specific age group, and being able to zoom in on the point aspects in a efficient way. Various effects in Adobe premiere and After effects were the tools in the process.Â
A major task was to solve many challenges in an efficient manner and investigating methods using the tools at hand. I had to perform most of these tasks my self given the resources we had available.
